Nairobi National Park. Sheldricks Elephant orphanage. Giraffe Center
Nairobi National Park : Established in 1946, the national park was Kenya’s first. It is located 7.5 kilometres south of the centre of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city.
This park comprises of a wide open grassland plains and backdrop of the city scrapers. Some scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of Kenya wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse bird life with over 400 species recorded. 4- 6 hours will be optimal.
Sheldricks Elephant orphanage : Sheldricks elephant orphanage works across Kenya. The projects include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment and enhancing community awareness. In addition, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans. Along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown. It is open for an hour to the public everyday at 11.00am.
Giraffe Center : The Giraffe Centre was created by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya), a Kenyan non-profit organization with the main purpose of educating Kenyan school children and youth on their country’s wildlife and environment, as well as give local and international visitors an opportunity to come into close contact with the world’s tallest species, the giraffe.
There is a lot to see and learn from these conservation efforts. In addition, they provide a great chance for family fun time in the weekend.
