10 days Kenya lodge safaris to Aberdares, Samburu,, Masai mara

 

 On arriving to Nairobi you head north to Aberdares National Park (Depending on your flight arrival)for their first of many game watching experiences. Admiring the glistening cap of snow on the dormant volcano of Mount Kenya before heading to Samburu National Reserve for a full day of game outings with good chances to see lions, leopards and giant crocodiles. Then a visit  to Lake Nakuru, famous for its pink flamingos, Next it's on to Maasai Mara to see the red-clad, spear-wielding Maasai warriors and Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya's most renowned game park. Back in Nairobi to enjoy a farewell dinne/lunch at the famous Carnivore restaurant for all types of game meat.

 

Day 1

Arrival in Nairobi. Look forward to a journey through majestic, unspoiled landscapes to fabulous game reserves  where the dark continent's incomparable wildlife is protected in its natural habitat. Settle into the Panafric or equivalent hotel. Time allowing, an afternoon orientation drive takes you through Kenya's modern, mile-high capital to the areas of Karen Blixen's farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills. Visit the fascinating MUSEUM dedicated to the author of Out of Africa; feed the gentle Rothschild's Giraffes at the Giraaffe Centre; finally, admire authentic African art and crafts at Utamanduni. Dinner in the hotel and short briefing of the safari (for guided safari) Accommodations is on double room sharing bed and breakfast basis.

 

Day 2

 Nairobi-Aberdares. Head north into the well-watered, fertile  plantations of central Kenya highlands.  On the way a break at the thundering Thika Falls then drive on to the luxurious Outspan Hotel for a country style lunch. In the afternoon transfer into the Aberdare National Park to Treetops or the Ark for an evening and Night of game watching from your veranda overlooking a flood-lit water hole and salt lick high up on the densely wooded slopes of the mountain. While away the after-dinner hours identifying creatures of the wild as they gingerly step out of the forest. Wildlife found here includes Elephants, Buffalos, Leopards, Lions, Cheeter, Giraffe among others. All meals and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 3:

 Aberdares-Mount Kenya-Samburu. Transfer back to the Outspan or Aberdare country club for breakfast and early departure for Samburu game reserve. Cross the equator on the way to the Northern foothills of Mount Kenya, a 17,058-foot dormant volcano with a glistening cap of ice and snow. Proceed to the grassland area which forms the bridge between Kenya's lush south and parched north. Watch out for herds of impalas, Grant's gazelles, and African buffalos as you enter the park. Check in at your hotel followed by an afternoon game drive. All meals and overnight at the lodge.

 

Day 4:

 Samburu. A full day of game viewing which starts early at dawn, when animals are most active, and in the late morning and afternoon, when the light is best for photography. Return to the lodge for breakfast, lunch, and dinner accordingly. You will stay close to the Ewaso Nyiro River, where vast herds of plains game comes to water, braving lions in the grass, leopards in the trees, and giant crocodiles. Samburu is home to particular wildlife rarely seen anywhere else including liver-red reticulated giraffes, the long-necked gerenuks(antelopes) and the elegant Grevy's zebra. All meals and overnight at the lodge.


Day 5:

Samburu-Lake Nakuru. Visit the spectacular Nyahururu (Thompson) Falls, and then make your way down the eastern escarpment of the magnificent Rift Valley. After lunch take a leisurely drive through Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its pink flamingoes. Drive to the edges of the lake to view thousands of birds feeding in the alkaline water; see the sweeping view from the top of Baboon Rocks; then look for warthogs and waterbucks as you leave the park. Lake Nakuru national park offers a truly remarkable game drive that includes the rare white rhino in this world famous ornithological paradise with over 450 species of bird life. A shimmering hot-pink glow emanates across the lake, created by millions of flamingos. Pelicans, cormorants and Marabou storks also feed on the abundant algae in the warm, shallow alkaline waters. Lake Nakuru National Park is a sanctuary for endangered black rhinos and White Rhino as well as the Rothschild giraffes. Waterbucks are common here, as are their predators, lions and leopards. All meals and overnight at the lodge.

 

Day 6:

 Lake Nakuru -Maasai Mara. After breakfast, depart for Masai Mara traversing the Rift Valley and ascend its western rim. You're now in Maasai country, where sedentary crop farming gives way to nomadic cattle herding. Red-clad, spear-wielding Maasai warriors tend their multi-colored herds among the wild animals of the Loita Plains, admirably unimpressed by the presence of large predators. All meals and overnight at the lodge.

 

Day 7:

Maasai Mara. Dawn, morning and afternoon game drives in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya's best and most scenic game park. At the northern extremity of the unique Serengeti ecosystem, blessed with a permanent water supply, the Maasai Mara has a thriving, permanent population of plains game, augmented in the dry season by the migration of more than 3 million gnus and zebras from the vast, parched Serengeti plains. Of the hunter's "big five," elephants, buffalos, lions, and leopard are quite common, while even the much rarer rhino might come out of the thicket for you. Hyenas are plentiful and the cheetahs, a 60-miles-per-hour daytime hunter, is often seen.

 

Day 8

Game viewing/Photography: Sunrise and sundown are the greatest moments for game viewing in these mystic plains, a time where the soft red hues of the sun will give you an added natural richness to your photographs with the clarity of the actual African savannah. Morning game viewing with long drive to the Mara River where you will be able to view Hippos and giant Crocodiles. This will be followed by resting time and later an afternoon game viewing-drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

 

Day 9:

 Maasai Mara-Nairobi. Another early morning pre-break fast game drive at 06:30hrs to complete your list of sightings. Drive back to the lodge for breakfast at 08:00hrs. Depart for Nairobi with game drive enroute to arrive late afternoon. You may want to check out the capital's excellent shops or simply relax by the pool. Tonight compare notes with your safari companions as you enjoy a farewell dinner/lunch at the most famous of African barbeque restaurant, The Carnivore. Accomodation at Panafric hotel- double room sharing bed and breakfast.

 

Day 10:

Depart Nairobi. Depending on your flight schedule you may have time to visit the renowned National Museum or take a dip in the hotel's swimming pool. Or shopping in Nairobi. If your flight leaves late, your room will be available until 6 p.m. (The above day 9 and 10 depends on your flight schedule and will be adjusted accordingly)

Day 1:The Ark Lodge

 You will be received on arrival in Nairobi and depart for the Ark, which is the heart of the Aberdare National Park. It overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attracts a host of wildlife: elephant, rhino, bushbuck, and occasionally the elusive bongo.


Day 2:

Samburu Serena Lodge

After breakfast depart for Samburu Game Reserve. Arrive for lunch at the Serena Lodge, built on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River. This reserve is home to some very rare and unusual species such as the beisa oryx (which has been known to be found only north of the equator), gerenuk, and the reticulated giraffe. Enjoy two days of game viewing.


Day 3:

Mount Kenya Safari Club

Depart after breakfast for the world renowned Mount Kenya Safari Club, which is at an altitude of around 7,000 feet. Enjoy the incredible variety of bird life and breathtaking views of Mt. Kenya which is over 17,000 feet.


Day 4: Lake Nakuru

 Depart after breakfast to Lake Nakuru National park a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population as one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are a considerable number of animals to be encountered, among them zebras, elephants and gazelles. This is one of your best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where you can see Rothschild's giraffes.


Day 5.Siana Springs Intrepids Camp

Fringed by marshes, it is situated on the eastern edge of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Siana Springs has a tranquil atmosphere, with spacious safari style tents among shady trees, offering complete privacy in an unspoiled setting. 


Day 6 Siana Springs Intrepids camp

Full day to one of the world's most famous wildlife reserves. From July to September, it provides one of nature's most dramatic sights, the annual migration of over a million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the Serengeti in the south and across the Mara River into Masai Mara. Following their footsteps are Africa's predators; lions, leopards, cheetah and hyenas. Full day spent in search of Elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Zebra, Cheetahs, Rhino, Wildebeest and other plains' game.


Day 7 Serena hotel (or equivalent) Nairobi

After breakfast, leave camp for the last game drive and return journey to Nairobi. Picnic lunch enroute and arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon or early evening. Dinner at Carnivore restaurant for succulent steaks and barbeque dishes recommended for every one, especially as a welcome or a farewell. Return to hotel for ovenight.


Day 8 Nairobi-Arusha

Board shuttle bus at 0800 hrs to the border town of Namanga where you will clear customs and immigration formalities. Proceed in Tanzania to Arusha. On arrival to Arusha, you will be transferred to Mt. Village Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. This is the only place on the continent where you can hear the Bantu, Cushitic, and Nilotic languages spoken in the same area.


Day 9 Serengeti National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will have a game drive in Lake Manyara Park. After lunch at the lodge, you will be driven to the great Serengeti where you will spend the night at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.


Day 10 Serengeti

Full day of game viewing. Magnificent experiences and views awaits you as you travel to the famous wildlife park, the legendary Serengeti. Here you might have the chance to see "the migration," where thousands of zebras and wildebeests make the trip from the Masai Mara every year. Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.

 
Day 11 Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, leave the lodge and head for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a game drive enroute. You will have an excursion to Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis Leakey's discovery of early man. You will have a picnic lunch and in the afternoon proceed to the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.

 
Day 12  Ngorongoro Crater

Breakfast overlooking the spectacular crater. Then head down the steep escarpments to the floor of the crater for an all-day game drive. You will have a picnic so that you can see as much of the 12-mile amphitheater and as much wildlife as possible. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon for relaxed moments before dinner.

 
Day 13 Arusha –Nairobi

 After breakfast, drive to Arusha. On arrival, you will lunch at Mt. Village Lodge. In the afternoon, board shuttle bus to Nairobi arriving at late afternoon. (Time will be adjusted according to flight schedule)

Day 2

 Masai Mara: The vast, open grasslands of the Serengeti-Mara are home to over 3 million large mammals.  Your morning and afternoon game drives in the Mara are the best times for seeing all the major Plains animals including lions, leopards, buffalos, elephants, rhinos, hyenas, cheetah, jackals, warthog and many species of antelope. Second of 3 night in the Mara. Mara Simba Lodge or similar. Breakfast, Lunch Dinner.

 

Day 3

Masai Mara:  You continue to explore this area on your morning and afternoon game drives. This open grasslands are home to almost every species of East African wildlife.  An opportunity to visit a cultural masai village and learn their famous traditional way of life. At sunset you will visit a section of the Mara River where you will see amazing number of hippos and giant croccodiles. Third of 3 nights in the Masai Mara. Mara Simba Lodge or similar. Day 4

Masai Mara - Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru: This morning you leave the open grasslands of the Masai Mara and descend into the Great Rift Valley again. You destination is Lake Naivasha which is a bird-watchers' paradise. In the afternoon you take a boat trip on Lake Naivasha out to Crescent Island, where you take a short walking safari. After your boat trip you continue along the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru. First of 2 nights in Lake Nakuru Lodge or similar. Breakfast & Dinner.

 

Day 5

 Lake Nakuru: Morning and afternoon game drives in the park. This lake is famous for its flocks of over one million Greater and Lesser Flamingoes. As well as seeing many large game animals such as zebras, elephants and gazelles. Also one of your best bets for seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where we can see Rothschild's giraffes. Second of 2 nights at the Lake Nakuru Lodge or similar. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

 

Day 6

Rift Valley - The Aberdares: This morning you ascend the Nyandarua Escarpment from the Great Rift Valley and visit Thomson Falls. Then you cross the Equator twice as you travel briefly from the southern hemisphere briefly into the northern hemisphere and back into the southern hemisphere . The lush hills of Aberdare National Park are covered by Kenya's densest forest and forms the eastern flank of the Great Rift Valley. You leave all the main luggage at the base hotel and continue with just our overnight bags to one of the famous "treehotels", deep in the Aberdares Forest. On your journey to your lodge look out for typical forest-dwelling animals such as the black and white Colobus Monkeys. A special feature of the lodge where you stay is the floodlit watering hole where you can watch from the lodge itself throughout the night as a great variety of animals comes down to drink. Overnight at the Ark, Treetops or similar. Breakfast and Dinner.

 

Day 7

Aberdares – Samburu: Driving north you pass Mount Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain at 17,000 feet (5,199 metres). This is also the traditional homeland of the
Kikuyu people, the largest of Kenya's 70 recognized tribes. You cross the Equator again into the northern hemisphere on your way to Samburu Game Reserve in a semi-desert area of Kenya. Samburu is located on the Ewaso Nyiro River. In the afternoon you take a game drive in the park. First of 2 nights in Samburu. Samburu Game Lodge or similar. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

 

Day 8

Samburu Game Lodge: Early morning and afternoon game drives in Samburu Game Reserve, which covers 40 square miles (104 square kilometres). It will be hard miss Ololokwe Table Mountain which forms a dramatic backdrop to your game viewing. Samburu is also home to the third of Kenya's giraffe species - the Reticulated Giraffe. You also meet the blue-legged Somali Ostrich , the long-necked Gerenuk gazelles and the straight-horned Beisa Oryx antelopes. Second of 2 nights in Samburu. Samburu Game Lodge or similar. Day 9

 Samburu - Mount Kenya Chimpanzee: Sanctuary you drive back south from Samburu to the Equator and the slopes of Mount Kenya. Although situated on the Equator, Mount Kenya is permanently covered in glaciers and snow. Here you stay at the Sweetwaters  Game Reserve. This very special 23,000 acre wildlife sanctuary was originally established to protect and breed highly-endangered Black Rhinos. In 1994 the Jane Goodall Institute established the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within the game reserve and moved a large group of chimps here from the unstable situation in their native West Africa. This afternoon you enjoy a game drive in the reserve and tour the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Overnight at Sweetwaters Camp. Breakfast & Dinner.

 

Day 10

Mount Kenya – Nairobi: This morning you drive back to Nairobi. Overnight in Nairobi. Nairobi Safari Club or similar. Breakfast & Dinner.

 

Day 111

Nairobi – Amboseli: In morning you depart for Amboseli National Park, right on the border with Tanzania. This park affords everyone's classic image of East Africa - herds of great animals moving across the dusty plains with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro rising straight up in the background. Mt. Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest mountain at 19,340 feet (5,895 metres). Although it is situated inside Tanzania, the best views of the mountain are from Amboseli on the Kenyan side of the border. In the afternoon you enjoy a game drive in the majestic Amboseli National Park. First of 2 nights in Amboseli. Amboseli Serena Lodge or similar. Breakfast and Dinner.

 

Day 12

Amboseli National Park: A full day to enjoy Amboseli National park with breakfast, lunch and dinner at your Serena Lodge or similar.

 

Day 13

Amboseli - Taita Hills: From the flat plains and swamps of Amboseli you travel east to Tsavo West National Park. Outside the park gates are the Shetani Lava Flows,"frozen" rivers of molten black rock twisted into bizarre shapes. At just over 7,800square miles (20,000 sq Km), Tsavo is Kenya's largest national park. The park is home to a huge variety of animals and birds, especially around the watering holes in this otherwise dry area. During the wet season, these watering holes are a stopover for hundreds of thousands of birds on their annual migration south. The Mzima Springs are the source of the freshwater pools much favoured by Hippos and crocodiles. Through a glass –wall you are able to view the pools from under the water line. Wildlife which can be spotted in this area includes lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, jackals, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, baboons and several species of antelopes. From Tsavo we
drive south to the Taita Hills Game Sanctuary, a private game reserve of 42,000acres (17,000 hectares) of rolling savannah accented by dramatic rocky outcrops and small plateaus. This is a favourite area for lions. The watering holes attract large herds of elephants. Overnight in the Taita Hills area. Hilton Salt Lick Lodge or similar. Breakfast & Dinner.

 

Day 14

 Taita Hills - Mombasa: In morning you drive further east from the interior of Africa to the Indian Ocean Coast. Travelling through an area of fertile fields and traditional grazing areas you pass through a spectacular panorama on your way to Mombasa. After settling into your beachfront hotel, the rest of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy the soft sands and warm waters of the turquoise Indian Ocean. You check inn at your hotel, voyager beach resort or equivalent.

After breakfast you visit the historical island town (on foot where convenient) with close visits to fort Jesus which was Built in 1593 by the Portuguese. It dominates the entrance to the Old Harbor and is positioned so that, even under siege, it was still possible to bring supplies in from the sea. Time permitting you can visit the Akamba village to see how carvings are made and later to Mamba Village to see this crocodile farm as you feed them. The Afternoon at leisure on the beach with free-form swimming pool. Other activities including snorkeling, wind-surfing among others are available. Other facilities include, Scuba diving and deep-sea fishing which can be arranged locally.


Day 15

 Indian Ocean Coast: The tour finishes in Mombassa this morning. For those taking the international flights, the morning is free for you to relax at your hotel before you take you afternoon flight from Mombassa to Nairobi. Board your evening flight back home.

Day 1 Sweet waters

Drive north through the lush foothill tea and coffee plantations around the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya to your hotel, Treehotel. Here in the night wildlife come to the floodlit water hole. This is pure theatre and a great way to introduce you to your safari. This area is also famous as the homeland of the Kikuyu tribe. Lunch at Aberdare Country Club. Dinner, bed and breakfast at your overnight lodge.


Day 2 Sweetwaters
After breakfast you drive across the Equator to Sweetwaters Private game sanctuary. This private ranch is well known for Rhino and has a Chimpanzee sanctuary supervised by the famous expert on Chimpanzees - Jane GoodHall. Afternoon game drive. Accommodation in spacious tents with private facilities built round a waterhole.


Day 3 Mt. Kenya

Drive to the world famous Mt Kenya Safari Club, founded by actor William Holden. The Club offers a splendid setting, stylish comfort, sporting facilities and awe-inspiring vistas of Mt Kenya , all fit for Royalty . Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast at your club.


Day 4 Masai Mara

After breakfast continue to Lake Nakuru National park for one  night of enjoying the world-famous flamingo sight of the Lake. Afternoon game drive. Lunch, dinner and bed and breakfast at the camp/lodge.


Day 5 Nakuru-Masai Mara
After breakfast proceed down the Rift valley headed to the Mara.  Here you have superb photographic opportunities to capture the stately black-manned Lions, Elephants and various plains game. Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast at your camp.

 

Day 6 Masai Mara

Wake up to a full day game watch in the world famous masai Mara game reserve. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in your camp/lodge.


Day 7 Masai Mara -Nairobi
After breakfast you start your drive back to Nairobi arriving in the late afternoon or early evening there after your transfer to the International Airport or you additional itinerary.

Mt. Kenya – Samburu  3 nights/ 4 days

 

This safari offers a unique game viewing experience on your way to Mt. Kenya as wildlife visits the floodlit salt and waterhole in front of your Tree hotel during the night, oblivious to the close proximity of the fascinated guests. You then continue to the rugged and dramatic landscapes of Samburu Game Reserve.

 

Day 1

You depart in the morning for lunch at your base hotel before your short transfer to your tree hotel for an evening of game viewing. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 02

After breakfast you continue your drive along the foothills of Mt.Kenya and the Equator before losing altitude as you gently descend into Kenya’s vast and arid Northern Frontier District to Samburu Game Reserve. A safari starting in from Nairobi to the Tree hotel for night game viewing, the spectacular birdlife, majestic scenery of a Great Rift Valley lakes and one of Kenya’s finest game reserves – Masai Mara.

 

Day 1    Nairobi – Tree hotel

You drive in the morning to your base hotel for lunch and then onto your Tree hotel for the evening game watching, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2    Tree hotel - Rift Valley

Drive around the northern tip of the Aberdare Mountains and down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley for lunch, relax in the afternoon, swim, or enjoy a boat ride, bird walk or game view, depending upon the lake visited. Dinner and overnight by a lake hotel.

 

Day 3     Rift Valley – Masai Mara

Your Safari continues across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve for lunch, an afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight. The Mara is one of Kenya’s most popular game reserves as most species of game found in the country live in its well- watered plains.

 

Day 4     Masai Mara
